Definition of extrovert and introvert

An extrovert means a person who loves to express his or her feelings verbally or physically. One who loves to express whatever he or she feels public.

Introvert means a person who is bounded by various layers of his or her shyness, which resist him or her from expressing what they feel. They are more conservative. Introverted people avoid attending social gatherings; they love to stay alone with their loneliness.

● Why I started reading about it?

Well answer to this question is somewhat funny, I guess. Such an embarrassment I faced that day! An annual function program was organized in our college which was attended by various professors of different subjects.

I was hosting the program. In the middle of an event, one of my seniors asked me to give a small speech on the stage in order to involve the audience. I started!

Suddenly our head of the department of psychiatry ward asked me a question from the audience. (Though unexpected, he asked)

He asked me the difference between introverts and extroverts. I told him the same I discussed above that introverts are shy by nature while extroverts are over-expressive. Everyone gave a bunch of claps to me except the one who asked me.

He came on the stage, took the mike from my hand, and said, "dear, do you know why they are clapping for you? Because they themselves do not know anything regarding this. You are absolutely wrong. Remember this that half knowledge is a poison to human's brain" And, he left.

I was shattered and stuck in confusion!

What was wrong?

What are an introvert and an extrovert?

● Extrovert

People who belong to this category are those who love to talk, party, or express themselves. For them, it is very easy to make friends.

Extroverts enjoy every social gathering. They love to stay surrounded by people and have an optimistic personality. Extrovert people are flexible and always remain ready to take the risk.

Introvert

These people are those who don't like to talk most of the time. These people are lost on their own. They also do not like to go to parties. Their lonely time also passes very easily.

For introverts, making friends is a task. This might be the reason that they avoid social gatherings.

Extrovert vs. Introvert

A survey was taken place where ten introverts and ten extroverts were chosen. Introverts were locked in a room for some time and all extroverts in another room.

After a period of time, it was observed that a room with extroverts was like a room with hundreds of people. All among them were laughing and talking as if they were childhood friends.

On the other hand, a room with introverts was like a room without a single person. All were busy doing their own kinds of stuff. All quite.

How they work differently?

1. Extrovert

2. Introvert

Whenever we think something, then energy comes out from our brain, which is in the form of waves. These are called electromagnetic waves.

The frequency of these waves is different in everyone's mind. Whenever our frequency matched with someone, we start talking to them. We are neutral for one whose frequency is not matched by us. But if our frequency is exactly the opposite, then we start disliking them.

So, the frequency of introverted people matches with fewer people. Because of which they are able to speak with very few people.

"Personality has power to uplift, the power to depress, the power to curse, and power to bless." --Paul P. Harris

How introverted nature affects our behavior?

It is obvious that our nature reflects our actions and reaction in society. Every person has a different way of reacting to a similar situation.

Like if I talk about many of the so-called macho man characters from Bollywood movies of the nineties, what personality comes in front of you? Most of them used to be introverts. They used to hide their feelings towards someone. What personality do they carry?

This is what introvert means.

Introverts are more suitable for jobs like writing or painting. I mean to say some artistic work.

As said by Laurie Helgoe, "I am rarely bored alone; I am often bored in groups and crowds."

This is a typical feeling of introverted people. They think too much but are not able to express all of it. They say the most with the least.

Some famous introverts are:

Albert Einstein.

Bill Gates.

Eleanor Roosevelt.

Elon Musk.

Emma Watson.

J.K. Rowling.

Meryl Streep.

Warren Buffet.

How extroverted nature affects our behavior?

As already said, extroverted people are more friendly as compared to introverts. They love to make friends and expand their relations. Extrovert people are more suitable for jobs of a leader, presenter, etc.

It is not like introverts will not be able to do this; even they can do but with extra effort. Extrovert people are somewhat more enticing than introverts because of their self-confidence and charismatic personality.

Some famous extroverts are:

Bill Clinton, President.

Margaret Thatcher, Prime Minister.

Steve Jobs, Innovator.

Boris Yeltsin, President.

Marie Antoinette, Queen.

Muhammad Ali, Boxer.

Winston Churchill, Politician.

George W. Bush, Politician.

How to improve introvert nature?

There is no one in this world who is perfect. Even it is not like you can not change it. Improving your introverted nature will help you to achieve your goals in society.

1. Stop thinking that people are judging you.

"Love is the absence of judgment." --Dalai Lama

This single thought stops most of us from doing lots of work. No one in this world is free to notice or to judge you. All are busy! Be yourself; try to inculcate it.

2. Try to start the conversation.

No matter where you are, you must try your best to start the conversation. Even a single greeting will do your job.

3. Be full of spirit.

Being optimistic and happy makes us feel good. This will help us to be comfortable in the crowd too.

4. Try to be enthusiastic while meeting new people.

Being cheerful while talking with others will make you happy and this will drag you to indulge in social activities.

5. Travel alone.

This will surely help you to improve your nature of being an introvert. In this case, you will find new people, and communicating with them will help you to take your nature on the right path.

How to improve extrovert nature?

You might be wondering that why did I said this? Yes, I accept that extrovert is more friendly in nature, but there is some aspect which has to deal.

1. Let people talk to you!

Jokes apart, let others express their feelings too.

Always keep talking may also destroy your impression in front of others. Give others their time to express themselves. Listening to others will definitely teach you a lot.

2. Expression is good, but an excess of anything is dangerous.

Try to avoid it. Sometimes it is okay to hide your emotions too.

Like even if I am very happy, I can not start smiling or talking too much when my patient is in pain.

Also, no matter what is going on in my life, I can not cry in front of my happy patient.

So, behave appropriately according to the situation you are in.

➡️➡️➡️➡️➡️➡️

Accept yourself as you are!

Most importantly, be the way you are. If you are comfortable with your nature, then it is absolutely fine. No need to change! But never stop improving.
