THE STEP TO MANAGING SELF-AWARENESS OF BUSINESS LEADERS.jpg

I have a daughter who has been playing chess since 3 years old. She completed a lot in local tournaments and even international chess championships. To support and help her grow as a chess athlete, I hired a personal trainer for her. The trainer is with us not only to hone her but to guide her too as she combats in every tournament. He was here to coach her, to mindset her towards victory, to teach her discipline and endurance.

This is the same thing with business.

We need a business coach to guide us through despite our knowledge of running our own company. We need a coach to feed us what we are missing, to show us what we can't see above and underneath our business. He is someone whom you can trust and who can help you rise from your Waterloos. The person who can boost you up to endure business challenges.

Coaches can build your mindset more and can be your shock-absorber sometimes. This is the last step in managing your self-awareness. Finding a coach to help you achieve all that I taught you.

KEEP TALKING: The Key to Positive Communication.

18.jpg

Communication is very important between couples, between parents and children, and between people to maintain harmonious and conflict-free relationships. Communication opens a gate to understanding, acceptance, and most of all love.

There are many underlying factors which affect relationship positively and negatively because of communication.

Let me present three top factors contributing to the loss of communication which leads to loss of the relationship.

1. DISTANCE

Being apart from each other most of the time causes loss of communication. If you miss saying even the dumbest thing that happens to you in a spur of the moment, there's more likely that you miss saying other happenings in your life, whether small or big later on. The key to prevent this is to keep talking. If you feel like writing is not the option for you, then share photos. Pictures speak a thousand words. There are many social media platforms that can help you bridge the gap.

2. PERSONAL ISSUES

You have personal issues that hinder you to talk to the other person. Telling what you felt and how you want the other person understands you can be done in pen and paper. If you want to resolve conflicts, write a letter to the person. Write everything in your heart. Why are you mad. Why are you disappointed. Why you don't want to see him/her. And make sure that the other person can read your letter. If that is not possible, it is okay. Write and continue writing. Later, this will help you prompt to go to the person and communicate.

3. INITIATIVE

Initiate to go to the person whom you feel you needed to talk. A simple hi or hello is a big step towards reconciliation and bringing communication back. A smile, like photos, can send a million messages.

BUILD A DIGITAL SHELF: A GUIDE ON HOW TO TEACH ONLINE

Teaching online is not far from teaching in an actual classroom. You still need to prepare your materials. Traditional classroom stores realia or actual objects necessary to emphasize keywords or convey the idea of your lesson. It also keeps lots of visual aids prepared for each subject matter.

The same should be observed in the virtual classroom. If you want to become a successful online teacher, whether it is teaching for a specific course or teaching English as a Secondary Language to Kids Level, you must prepare yourself to organize your own digital shelf.

If visual aids take space in the actual classroom, the digital shelf will also take space on your computer. Hence consider the following in building your digital shelf.

1. Provide yourself with a flash memory. Either a flash drive or a memory card. Choose one that has a high storage capacity.

2. Organize your files by folder. Aside from having a neat file window, it is easier to locate files if they are saved by category.

3. Put your pictures in a PowerPoint presentation. Aside from saving some space, students can easily follow your lead if you are showing them an organized lesson.

4. Lastly, instead of downloading Youtube videos, why not copy the URL of that video you want to show to your students then paste them by category in a Notepad or MS Word. You can retrieve them later should you need it for your today’s lesson. It is one way to build a digital shelf as well as save space in your storage media.

TIPS FOR A SUCCESSFUL SELF-INTRODUCTION FOR ONLINE TEACHING

Are you wondering how to start your video for self-introduction? To give you an idea, I list down the steps on how to create a self-made video for your self-introduction.

1. Prepare your script.

* Tell your name.

* Where you live.

* Share your teaching experience. Much as possible your online teaching experience. You don't need to mention other jobs you have in the past. Remember, this is a short introduction. If you have a certain expertise in this and that, reserve that during the initial interview or better yet show it off when you are on the platform already.

* Tell how you do your class. Are you the scholarly type? Are you the traditional type who uses board and pen? Are you the techie type?

* Tell what the students can expect from you after they have booked your lesson.

* Lastly, invite them to book you for a lesson. Encourage the potential students to book your class by showing your friendly nature in camera. Tell that you offer fun-filled, engaging and interactive classes all the time.

2. Be natural. Be yourself. Memorize your script. Don't read them during recording or else you'll appear like a robot.

3. Most parents look for a teacher with a friendly aura. So, don't forget to smile. Show your bubbly personality. Enjoy teaching.

TIPS FOR SHORT INTRODUCTION FOR ONLINE TEACHING

Are you an aspiring ESL teacher? Here is a short example of self-introduction for you, especially for kids' level.

1. Provide good lighting in your workspace.

2. Dress casually so you will not scare them with your "professional" looking-attire.

3. Wear light makeup. You don't need to overdo it since your demo is intended for kids.

4. Prepare your Manycam apps, a creative app that you can embed to gender, Google Classroom, or Zoom. Download or create effects that are necessary for your short introduction. Take a slow transition for each effect.

5. Speak slowly and keep your effects going with the content of your introduction.

6. Of course, children are children. They like to see toys, so show-off your favorite toy. Parents want to see how you make use of teaching resources, so show a sample.

7. Wear something on your head. It could be a hat, flower crown, or a catchy headband. I regularly use a digital Minnie Mouse headband is available in Manycam.

The Demand for Virtual Teachers
27.jpg
I don't know why capitalism's principles
are so elusive, but they are.
I don't know why there's money on the ground
and no one to pick it up, but it does. Maybe it is because we are so engrossed in our work, but we miss the forest from the trees. For a moment, for a split second, beyond deadlines or job searching, there is a simple concept we must respect. Today we meet demand.
Demand isn't where you are, but
it's where you need to be.
Let me send you
an example of the market.
Okay, I'm
a mom.
My child's
the K-6.
I'm on lockdown
.
My child is
at home from school.
My kid is unable
to play with other children.
My child is depressed and socially withdrawn and
is beginning to show symptoms of anxiety and regression.
My child looks sad and comes to me for attention. My child is starting to hang up under me all day.

Do you see the demand here? The parent is looking for a connection to someone who can help her understands and empathizes with the challenges of a parent, forced overnight to “home school” my child. Before COVID-19, I could send my child off to school, and the teachers would take care of the rest.

The child is waiting on the other line. It is about time to camp in your garage or your attic or to any quiet place in your house to set up your virtual classroom., the answer to the demand of weary parents and children.

RISK FACTORS THAT AFFECTS CHILD'S BEHAVIOR

Most children nowadays behave differently from the children of the past. Some are becoming wild, while few are being bullied. It is very noticeable that most children are impolite, rude and have uncontrolled behavior.

These challenging children may be attributed to three risk factors that influence their behavior. One is their environment. If a child lives in a wholesome and accepting family, the child is more likely to be gentler, kinder and soft-spoken compare to a child who grew in a troubled, dysfunctional family with a single parent raising him/her.

The second factor is the inner experience that the child received from his/her immediate family. These positive or negative inner experiences will dictate how a child will behave as an individual especially when in a group or among peers.

The last and third factor that impacts the behavior of a child is receiving the correct empathy which should start from home. Self-awareness which is one aspect of empathy should be taught earlier to a child. When a child becomes aware of his strengths and weaknesses, he/she turns to be more open to the correction of his/her own misbehavior. The child also tends to be more apprehensive about his/her behavior. He/She can easily distinguish positive or negative emotions which leads to self-management of emotion.

As educator, the teacher should pay close attention to the behavior the students manifest in a class or among his/her friends. When the teacher approaches the student or the child per se, she should take into consideration what personality does the child possesses and use that the parameter to choose a learning style appropriate and matching to the student. Likewise, since most students are now more open and aggressive, the teacher must motivate them more to choose self-improvement than self-destruction.

TURN YOUR HOME INTO A VIRTUAL CLASSROOM

Due to Novel Coronavirus a.k.a. COVID 19, people were forced to stay at home to keep them safe and protect their families from the unforeseen enemy. This deadly virus created havoc on our economy. Businesses are shut down, entry for vehicles is lockdown and people were restrained to go anywhere.

Many schools are now closed because of COVID 19. Millions of children were forced to stop going to their respective schools especially after the government requested citizens to avoid social gatherings, including church activities. Social distancing measures are implemented nationwide hence people preferred to stay at home.

To support the needs of the family, experts on online teaching suggest to those who are able and have the qualifications to teach online to make their home a virtual classroom. This is the right opportunity to earn a living amidst the crisis.

Many online ESL companies are popping out like mushrooms in all social media platforms and looking for teacher support because of the influx of students who are enrolling in virtual classes. If you are a graduate of any BA or BS degree, you are good to go.

Having ESL teaching certification is a plus point to get you hired faster. If you don't have any yet, many companies offer 160 to higher hours of training. Then lookout for a few kid's stuff which is necessary if you will apply to teach kids level. If you prefer teaching adults and you have the skills to share, then you can clean up a little space in the corner of your house to make your instant virtual classroom.

Of course, all online ESL companies require teachers to be in a quiet, clutter-free environment. So, find a suitable place to set up your table and teaching materials.

TUNING UP INNER EXPERIENCES TO IMPROVE EMPATHY IN CHILDREN

Do you ever meet a child who seems to have needy behavior? Or perhaps a child who fears authority? How about a little one who keeps shouting, crying and throwing tantrums anywhere? Then you might have encountered a child with developing toxic personality. A child with bad inner experiences.

As a parent or guardian, we should address these experiences of an inner child at an early stage of his/her development to prevent unwanted behavior to sprout while he/she is growing up. Many researchers have proven that children who experienced a lack of attention during their formative years created a psycho-behavioral effect later on.

It is timely that while we are gathered together at home due to week-long quarantine in light of COVID 19 attack, to start tuning-in these inner experiences within our child or even within ourselves who sometimes manifest the symptoms.

Here are some positive outlooks I provide to my children to support their inner experiences while we are in observance of home quarantine, which you could try.

** Now and then, I remind them how special they are from my eyes, as their mother. The sense of attention and assurance are very important for children, so I make them feel how I treasure each one of them.

**Behind this worldwide pandemic, I make them feel how safe they are in my hands and under my protection so it will imprint in their heart and mind that they can trust their life on me and later they will do the same to other authorities.

**Speak kind words every time I open my mouth because of a loving and soothing words last longer in their memory.

So, start spreading love and empathy within your house by tuning in everyone's inner child.

BOOST EMOTIONAL SECURITY TO DEVELOP CHILDREN'S EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE

Do you have a kindergarten at home? Was there a time that it was difficult for your child to let go of you when you send him/her to school?

Our children, as I have told in my previous post, are incapable of expressing their emotions. In times like this, we should be more understanding of their behavior by securing their emotions and boosting them afterward.

Here are some tips to boost emotional security:.

* Teach our children to express themselves by showing them different faces of emotions through flashcards. Visualizing expressions like being happy, sad or mad makes it easier for the children to distinguish what he/she feels and gradually imitate the expressions for us to evaluate, approve or accept;

* Make them feel that they can trust you for keeping promises. Build trust on your child towards you so when you promise something, he/she can hold on to that and believe in you;

* Whispering kind words instead of scolding them in front of other people build their confidence. You may tell them how excited you are to see their achievement when you come back. Encouraging words are worth an assurance that you care.

*Most of the time, hugging fulfills the goal of securing his/her emotions.

PROBLEM SOLVING CAN NURTURE EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE OF YOUR CHILD

Problem-solving .jpg

Little children find it hard to express their emotions might as well in understanding one. The feeling of anger seems to be a big idea to them while being mad could be easier to grasp. Mad is a feeling they see and encounter every day, while anger sets a higher emotion. A feeling they should learn to discern, to control.

It is important to know that negative emotions are feelings we should not let our child swallow. We should teach emotions to them, like how to deal with negative feelings and figure them until they can solve their own problems. This is how emotional intelligence is being nurtured into our children.

Teaching children to understand each emotion he or she felt is a two-way process. We, as parents, should learn first how to read their facial expressions. Meanwhile, once we smell trouble, we need to approach our children and be sensitive to their feeling. They can feel if their parents are genuinely serious when asking how they feel. As they talked, act like you are interested in what they are saying. As you build trust with your child, he or she becomes comfortable in airing his sentiments.

When we have established trust between the two of you, the next task is to teach him to manage his feelings. Make your child see the situation. Start by asking him what disappoints him toward his friend? Is there anything he could do to make up for a reason? Or could you brainstorm with him what the possibility of talking to his friend and discussing the matter is?

Perceiving solutions to solve a situation is a problem-solving skill worth mastering by your child as he grows old.

NAMING FEELINGS HELP NURTURE EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE OF YOUR CHILD

Naming feelings: how to nurture emotional intelligence.jpg

Whenever you see a child smiling, don't you feel smiling with the child too? You laugh hard when the child coos and boos after you make a face to him/her. One way of nurturing your child's emotional intelligence is by teaching him/her to name their feelings.

As early as your child can mimic your facial emotion, teach them different emotions through facial expressions. You can even use pictures or flashcards to help them visualize what a happy face looks like, how bad it looks to be mad, or how to calm them when they see scared faces.

Teaching emotions will help them understand their own feelings. Teaching them how to call each emotion will help them address it the next time they feel it. It will also help them manage the said emotion that overwhelms them as they grow and become familiar with it.

Through such a process, we are nurturing empathy in your child by helping them experience others' feelings. Proper reflection will help them develop this characteristic, so I advise that we should watch our actions and words in front of the children as parents.

REFLECTION CAN NURTURE EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE OF YOUR CHILD

Reflection: how to nurture emotional intelligence.jpg

I have said that to nurture the emotional intelligence of a child, we should understand the way they communicate with us. Most of the time, they may throw tantrums through their body language or facial expression.

In this topic, we will dwell on using reflection to enhance the development of a child's EQ.

When calling your child for mealtime, did you ever experience difficulty in asking them to leave their toys for a while and follow you to the dining room instead? How do you behave when they ignored you and continued their play?

I knew it.

I knew most of the time, it annoyed you, and you can't help but shout at them.

Have you noticed that when your child plays with children of the same age, he shouts at them too when he couldn't get what he wants?

Whatever you do to a child, it imprints in their mind. Their mind will then processed that it is okay to behave like that because that was what you also do to address a situation, so they mirror what you do. Children are the best imitators, so we should be careful about what we let them see.

If they frequently received affection from you, often your child became friendly and accepting. If you include them in family talks, they reflect that they too can decide on their own, and this manifests when they are with playmates. What they see is what we get.

As responsible adults, let us help our children reflect on what is only desirable to God and His eyes.

HOW TO NURTURE EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE OF YOUR CHILD

HOW TO NURTURE EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE TO YOUR CHILD.jpg

Children’s emotional intelligence is important to develop at a young age. It helps them learn to solve a situation in front of them. It helps them control their emotions and eventually understand how to manage it too. Later on, they will learn to communicate their feelings to others, especially to their parent.

As their guardian, we would wish our children to have these characteristics. Hence I will go through the steps of nurturing your child’s EQ one at a time to guide you.

We all knew that children behaved differently from time to time. They throw tantrums. They make demands. They cry. Though it may sound annoying, these are how they knew to express their emotions.

So developing their EQ needs some recognizing and empathizing with their behavior, and here are some tips to follow to nurture positive emotional intelligence among your children:

1. Stop for a while, and listen to what they are saying.

2. Understand their body language. Look at their facial expression. They might convey something which they cannot express through words but can show through their faces,

3. Decipher the strange feeling that disturbed them. Instinctively, parents can feel that.

4. The feeling that they are being heard and that they can trust you with their emotion is a big deal to your child. We must not miss a cue.

5. Help them regulate their self-control and manage their emotions by providing positive feedback and saying words of encouragement from time to time.

Giving quantitative attention and generous affection to your child makes a big difference in nurturing their emotional intelligence. Don't give up. Just be patient, for the fruit of success are sweet later on.

PURSUING HOBBIES AND INTEREST: A STEP TO MANAGING SELF-AWARENESS OF BUSINESS LEADERS

PURSUING HOBBIES AND INTEREST: A STEP TO MANAGING SELF-AWARENESS OF BUSINESS LEADERS.jpg

Pursuing my interest to write just anything under the sun gives me the opportunity to explore the ideas in my mind and organize them in one theme, in one story that when you happen to read, you will get excited or you will get inspired.

Despite my busy schedule, I still find time to do a few of the things that interest me, writing and sports, and arts. While I am into it, I learn some good points that motivated me more when I resume working.

1. I learn to organize not only my stuff but also my thoughts.

2. I learn to discipline myself when it comes to time management, resource management, and food cravings, especially when I am into sports.

3. Aside from being health conscious, I find time to contemplate what I did for the last five days; hence giving feedback to employees is more approaching.

I became friendlier too and more driven because I have inspired myself once more—things a leader must possess to grow more and become productive.

SERVANT LEADERSHIP: A STEP TO MANAGING SELF AWARENESS OF BUSINESS LEADERS

Servant leadership.jpg

Servant leadership is another form of leadership business leaders can apply to manage their self-awareness skills. This kind of leadership follows the philosophy of Robert Greenleaf, where a leader must remain a servant to improve others and to build each member. The objective of this leadership is to serve while leading a group. A leader does not only empathizes with members but directly helps them to develop themselves as they perform their tasks.

In my years of service as leader of a faculty, I worked with my staff literally. For instance, if I wanted them to follow the 5S of housekeeping, I joined them in cleaning. As we worked together, I showed them how to do it and taught them how to properly sort and dispose of stuff. I get myself dirty, too, as they looked messy themselves.

This is an example of servant leadership. Through self-awareness, know how you can get yourself involve in coming up with ideas, planning strategically, and in forming a good working habit in each and every member of your team. You should not expect to be treated like a leader but expect them that they work with you as you lead the group.

TRANSFORMATIONAL LEADERSHIP: A STEP TO MANAGING SELF-AWARENESS OF BUSINESS LEADERS

Transformational Leardership.jpg

Leaders of today are expected to be technology-oriented, inventive, and strategic due to advances in science.

To become dynamic leaders, one must be strongly skilled, highly informed, purposely driven, charisma over constituents, and have good interpersonal skills.

Part of self-awareness as a business leader is knowing these skills and being able to manage them to be efficient. One key to observe these skills is by being a transformational leader. To become a transformational leader requires one to be empathetic.

To embody a transformational leader's character, one must know to motivate himself and must have the ability to take the risk yet remain to be a reliable and dependable person. Being an empathetic transformational leader, one should be sensitive to others' needs, thus able to mentor staff if needed to motivate these subordinates to perform better. Apart from these, a transformational leader is expected to have strong decision-making skills, aware of his capability to think critically, and knows how to build harmonious relationships with his members.

Needless to say, not all leaders are born naturally with these sets of skills; hence a self-awareness checklist must be prepared and should be worked out.

SOURCING SUPPORT SYSTEM: THE STEPS TO MANAGING SELF-AWARENESS OF BUSINESS LEADERS

72.png

In this world where global competition is high, having singular talent is not enough, especially if you are aiming to be a leader. Take my personal experience. I have been running a business for a few years already. I thought, being talented and skillful will be enough to outrun competitors in our area.

But when technology became a significant factor in increasing profitability, it was then that I thought of resourcing personnel who can fill in my weaknesses. I am knowledgeable in computer programs but not in other graphic presentations. I am adept at using Excel applications but not in accounting.

To be able to catch up with my competitors, I hired people who are good at stuff where I am not good at.

I created a support system where I am weak. In this way, it makes my load easier. It even improves my program because my idea was collaborated by the ideas of other experts.

I provided my self with a team that can help me create a strategic plan for the improvement of our services.

Anyways, two heads are always better than one. It really works in business.

ONE DAY OF DOSE: A STEP TO MANAGING SELF-AWARENESS OF BUSINESS LEADERS

71.png

I am recommending One Day of Dose to all leaders not only to help them manage their self-awareness but also to help them manage their health.

One day of dose activities may include a day alone in your office where you are focused only on reviewing and signing all your incoming documents, answering emails and doing other personal tasks.

This day will help you dispose eyesore on your table hence freeing your mind of stress and rush hour job.

Another form of One Day of Dose is choosing a certain day in a week to meditate and self-searching. This kind of deviation from work invigorates our energy and gives us a better perspective after meditation. The impact it gives to work shows an empathetic approach to employees and other members.

Joining your employee/s in a group activity outside the office can help ease the tension that is building inside an office. Once in a while, go with them to eat or drink and talk of things that interest them. Okay, you may talk topics related to work but if I were you, I'd rather talk about their families.

TRUSTWORTHINESS: THE STEPS TO MANAGE SELF-AWARENESS OF BUSINESS LEADERS

73.png

Another important step to manage self-awareness, aside from self-accountability, is building trustworthiness. One trait of a successful leader is being trustworthy. Back in college days where I attended youth training or student leadership formation training, I looked first at the people who manage the training. I scrutinized their capability, their skills, their capacity to drive me to do the task they laid on us.

I looked at their program. Are they organized? Are they goal-oriented? Are they friendly in approaching each participant?

I scrutinized how they handle their belongings. Are they tidy with their personal grooming kit? Are they neat with their stuff i.e pencils and pens are in the pencil case, staplers and staples are in the same place, papers, and notes in folders?

I am telling you by experience, these things alone can make someone mirror you if you can be trusted. If you cannot organize your own things, then you can never organize a team.

You cannot be trusted with big if you don't know how to do it in small things. Build your trustworthiness skill by starting at yourself.
